Home Contents Insurance
Why do I need it?
Mill Street Housing Society does not provide insurance cover for your contents. It is a good idea to consider what a home contents insurance policy would cover you for in order to help you make an informed decision on whether you need one.
Contents insurance is designed to help protect possessions. No matter how careful you are, there is always a risk that your belongings could be broken, damaged or stolen.
To help you decide whether home contents insurance is right for you the Society has teamed up with Thistle Tenant Risks and Great Lakes Insurance Uk Limited who provide the My Home Contents Insurance Scheme, a Tenants Contents Insurance policy designed for tenants living in social housing.
The My Home Contents Insurance Scheme can offer you insurance for the contents of your home including cover for items such as furniture, carpets, curtains, clothes, bedding, electrical items, jewellery, pictures and ornaments.
Go to www.thistlemyhome.co.uk to find out more and to use our contents calculator to work out the value of your home contents...

For dogs and cats
If you live in a house or bungalow with direct access to a garden that is for your sole use, you will normally be granted permission to keep a dog or cat. Consideration will be given to the type of property you live in and the size of your garden as well as the breed, size and number of pets you are asking permission to keep.
Residents in sheltered flats cannot keep dogs or cats.
If you do have a pet you must make sure that it is kept under control and does not cause a nuisance or distress to other residents in your area. Permission to keep a pet may be withdrawn if the animal is causing a nuisance or if there are concerns about the animal’s welfare.
If a problem is being caused by neighbour’s dogs you can contact the Dog Warden for advice. https://www.dorsetforyou.com/dog-warden
